WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Media Research Center President Brent Bozell today blasted Bill Moyers, former host of the PBS show Now , for his character assassination attempt against Corporation for Public Broadcasting Chairman Ken Tomlinson. In a recent speech in St. Louis, Moyers accused Tomlinson of participating in the blacklisting of several prominent Americans keeping them from speaking and lecturing on behalf of the U.S. Information Agency when Tomlinson ran the Voice of America in the mid-1980s. VOA is part of USIA. Moyers presented no evidence for his charge. This is character assassination, pure and simple. This is just another Newsweek... continue reading
WASHINGTON, D.C . - Media Research Center President Brent Bozell issued the following statement reacting to Newsweeks refusal to retract a false story that sparked riots15 dead, 100 injuredin several Muslim countries. Newsweek is guilty of pushing a false story they knew was unconfirmed but wanted to believe was true, and this time the result was tragic. The Newsweek story is the same CBS/National Guard gotcha journalism story all over again, only this time with riots and deaths as the deeply regrettable consequences. This is the painful legacy of news organizations whose anti-Bush agenda predisposes them to running negative stories... continue reading
ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- The Media Research Center and its president, Brent Bozell , along with conservative luminaries such as Cal Thomas, Sean Hannity, Neal Boortz and Ann Coulter, roasted the media elite by presenting its awards for the worst reporting of 2004 at last nights annual DisHonors Awards Dinner. The winners were selected by a panel of 16 distinguished media observers, including Rush Limbaugh, William F. Buckley, Lucianne Goldberg, Michelle Malkin and Robert Novak. After the awards ceremony, Bozell presented the MRCs Conservative of the Year award to the Swift Vets and POWs for Truth for their courageous role in... continue reading
ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- A new report, The Life of Pope John Paul II: Shepherd of Souls or Antiquated Authoritarian? released today by the Media Research Center (MRC) exposes the medias two-handedness in reporting about the late Pope John Paul II. As the media covered his death and funeral, many noted his lifetime triumphs. Pope John Paul was praised for his help in ending the Cold War, his efforts to bring other faiths together, and his inspiring charisma that energized crowds, especially young people, during his travels. However, when it came to the Churchs doctrines, the media were quick to criticize... continue reading
ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Media Research Center (MRC) President Brent Bozell issued the following statement in reaction to the reports that the New York Times requested former Congressman Robert Livingston write an op-ed advising House Majority Leader Tom Delay to step aside for the betterment of the Republican Party: This case makes the political agenda of the New York Times perfectly clear. They want to destroy Tom DeLay, period. What liberals could not do at the ballot box, they are trying to do through the news media. These actions prove how the media are actively demonizing DeLay. It has nothing to... continue reading
ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Media Research Center President Brent Bozell issued the following statement in reaction to the medias coverage of the death of Pope John Paul II: Conservatives have much to criticize in the so-called mainstream media. Every once in awhile, however, we get a glimpse of the press at its finest. The medias coverage of 9/11 was an example. The medias coverage of the death of Pope John Paul II is another. Journalists have recognized Pope John Pauls engaging and fatherly presence, which many Americans and the rest of the world have known throughout his reign. Many reporters have... continue reading
ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- In an election year where Americans showed moral values do matter and The Purpose Driven Life topped bestseller lists for many weeks, the medias reporting failed to resonate with the rest of the country. The Media Research Center just released a study of network news religion coverage revealing a deep disconnect existing between America and the media elite. The networks unfortunately continue to give us a grossly biased view of America which doesnt square with reality. They paint a big picture of America with little or no faith, and they often portray religious institutions as being corrupting... continue reading
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Media Research Center President Brent Bozell issued the following statement concerning Dan Rather retiring from the anchor chair on March 9 and being replaced on an interim basis by Bob Schieffer. Dan Rather spent his career at CBS spinning the news to further a partisan political agenda. He fawned over Hillary Clinton (political lightning), praised the impeached Bill Clinton (an honest man), attempted to ambush the first President George Bush over Iran-contra (youve made us hypocrites in the face of the world), and demonized the Gingrich Revolution (as an attempt to demolish or damage government aid programs,... continue reading
Naming Bob Schieffer to replace Dan Rather, even for the short term, further proves the CBS investigation into the Rathergate fiasco was a whitewash. Liberal bias prevails at CBS News, and the public will put little stock in CBSs reporting until this network removes the institutionalized bias that permeates its newsroom. Schieffer himself is a classic example of someone in complete denial regarding liberal bias at CBS, having himself said: It's such a wacky charge. This particular charge was the exact subject of former CBS newsman Bernard Goldbergs bestselling book. The problem starts at the top. Les Moonves can no... continue reading
Once again, CBS News hasnt gone far enough in addressing the institutional problem of liberal bias within its ranks. Both CBS News President Andrew Heyward and Evening News Anchor Dan Rather had to sign off on the anti-Bush story that CBSs own panel has concluded was inaccurate and unfairand yet neither man has been held accountable. The network aired this story with the full intention of destroying President Bush and both Mr. Rather and Mr. Heyward were complicit in this action. Forcing their underlings to fall on the sword for them betrays a Nixonian complex at the highest levels of... continue reading
