A Pentagon memo that listed dozens of contacts between al Qaeda and Saddam Husseins Iraq was leaked to the Weekly Standard magazine and published more than two weeks ago. Despite the explosive nature of the leak, the broadcast network evening news programs have ignored the story. While the cable news networks have reported the leak, the broadcast network powers-that-be are deliberately withholding the information contained in the memo, depriving 30 million viewers of the truth. This refusal to cover the story stands in stark contrast to the rabid enthusiasm the networks have shown when reporting leaks that could hurt the... continue reading
CBSs decision to pull the The Reagans mini-series was a wise one. The movie had lost all credibility and Viacom would be well-advised to clean this mess up before airing it on Showtime. The original decision to broadcast a factually-distorted film about the former President when he is in the latter stages of Alzheimers disease showed disgustingly poor taste. This is another reason why Viacom would do well to ensure the movie accurately portrays history instead of rewriting history to suit a liberal agenda. To schedule an interview with Mr. Bozell, or another MRC spokesperson, contact Katie Wright at (703)-683-5004,... continue reading
ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Media Research Center President Brent Bozell is sending a letter to the top 100 corporate advertisers in America today, urging them not to support the upcoming CBS mini-series The Reagans. The mini-series has blatantly distorted history and is nothing more than a partisan political attack against one of Americas most beloved presidents, Bozell writes in his letter. New York Times reporter Jim Rutenberg, one of the few people outside of CBS who has read the script, noted that the mini-series completely omitted the unprecedented economic expansion of the 1980s. That glaring oversight is not nearly as unfair,... continue reading
ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Media Research Center President Brent Bozell defends Rush Limbaugh in his just released nationally syndicated column. Below are excerpts from the column. Of course there is a social concern to see blacks break sports barriers, and its laughable to pretend otherwise. There are countless examples weve all heard them of commentators, columnists, and editorial writers agitating for more black coaches and quarterbacks in the NFL. Last January 8, New York Times columnist Selena Roberts did precisely that: As the playoffs have revealed, theres progress, but so little change. There are proven black quarterbacks and coaches, but race... continue reading
ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- The Media Research Center today marked the 20th anniversaries for both ABC World News Tonight News anchor Peter Jennings and NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw this Friday, September 5, by releasing two reports featuring the most biased quotes from two of the most powerful men choosing the news for citizens of the most powerful nation on Earth. On the bias Richter scale, Mr. Brokaw is about a 4.5 while Mr. Jennings is off the charts, but both have used their powerful bully pulpits not to report, but to promote liberalism and big government. Their decades of... continue reading
ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Media Research Center President Brent Bozell today expressed concern over the New York Times ' naming of columnist Bill Keller as the newspaper's new executive editor. A review of Keller's writings, released today by the MRC's Times Watch project, reveals him to just as liberal - perhaps even more so - than his predecessor Howell Raines who resigned in disgrace. Mr. Keller's writings are indistinguishable from the hyperbolic liberalism coming from the most left-wing Democratic presidential candidates. The essential question - can Keller erect an effective firewall between his personal liberalism and professional responsibilities? - has yet... continue reading
ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Media Research Center President Brent Bozell today praised MSNBC for firing host Michael Savage for wishing death to a caller into his show over the weekend. But he also pointed out the hypocrisy: The same media turn a blind eye to liberals in the media who spew the very same hateful venom at conservatives. MSNBC was right to fire Michael Savage. His comments have no place in civilized debate. But neither did comments that have come from liberal icons of television such as Bryant Gumbel, Nina Totenberg and Julianne Malveaux - all of whom have said hateful... continue reading
ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Media Research Center President Brent Bozell issued the following statement today, reacting to the resignations of New York Times Executive Editor Howell Raines and Managing Editor Gerald Boyd: Now that Mr. Raines and Mr. Boyd have resigned, Publisher Arthur Sulzberger, Jr. has a crucial decision to make. He can either continue to use the Times to promote an arrogant, left-wing advocacy agenda or he can return to the news. The New York Times return to respectability is dependent upon whether it presents the news in an accurate, evenhanded manner. All the news that's fit to print is... continue reading
ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- The director of the Media Research Centers Timeswatch project, Clay Waters, is demanding New York Times executive editor Howell Raines come forward and clearly answer the question of whether the Times put quotas over quality in its handling of reporter Jayson Blair, who left the Times under a cloud of plagiarism. In recent broadcast interviews with both National Public Radio and Public Broadcasting, Raines dodged direct questions about whether or not the Times ignored many warning signs about Blair because it wanted to increase and maintain minority representation on its staff. Mr. Raines needs to stop dodging... continue reading
ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- The liberal media are once again displaying a blatant double standard in covering the remarks of liberal and conservative politicians. In December, Sen. Patty Murray, then the leader of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, compared Osama bin Laden favorably to the United States, saying he allegedly built hospitals and day care centers in the Third World, and "We have not done that." The national media, print and television, almost completely ignored it. In 2001, Sen. Robert Byrd, the former Democratic majority leader, said "There are white niggers, Ive seen a lot of white niggers in my time"... continue reading
