On Friday's CNN Newsroom , Brooke Baldwin played up the apparent similarity between Senator-elect Joni Ernst's laugh and that of Cruella De Vil, the antagonist from Disney's 101 Dalmations . Baldwin aired a short segment on Ernst and two newly-elected Republican women in Congress. She ended the part about the Iowa politician with her comparison: " Don't forget about that laugh. Some people call it contagious; other people have likened it to this ." The anchor then twice played clips of Ernst laughing at her victory rally, followed by De Vil's evil cackle. CNN's Don Lemon, Chris Cuomo, and Alisyn Camerota stuck to the left's spin about the results of the 2014 midterm elections on Thursday's CNN Tonight , as they discussed President Obama's Wednesday press conference. Lemon wondered, " Why do people vote against their own interests? Because if you look at West Virginia, Kentucky, Arkansas ... they put mostly Republicans in office ... But they are the states that are benefiting the most from the Affordable Care Act ." Cuomo also asserted that the reason why Democrats lost was because " the party abandoned its president, and paid the price ...... continue reading
At the conclusion of her MSNBC show on Thursday night, Rachel Maddow was absolutely beside herself over the fact that Republicans made massive gains in state legislatures across the country and excoriated Democrats for appearing to have no such strategy or interest in winning seats on the state level. Following Tuesday’s midterm elections, Republicans gained a total of 310 seats in states from coast to coast and, by Wednesday, the GOP will completely control 30 of the 50 state legislatures in the country (by early next year) with Democrats having less than ten now to their credit. In a report for Friday's NBC Today , White House correspondent Kristen Welker continued the network's effort to preemptively blame Republicans for any gridlock that may occur in Washington following the GOP's landslide win in Tuesday's midterm election: "Republicans have drawn their own battle lines, doubling down on their pledge to repeal the President's signature piece of legislation, ObamaCare, and vowing to approve the Keystone Pipeline, which the President has resisted." Introducing the segment, fill-in co-host Willie Geist noted congressional leaders meeting with President Obama at the White House on Friday and wondered: "But can a lunch really do anything... continue reading
On November 5, Judicial Watch announced that the IRS admitted “that it failed to search any of the IRS standard computer systems for the ‘missing’ emails of Lois Lerner and other IRS officials.” The admission comes after the government watchdog group made a “request that a federal court judge allow discovery into how ‘lost and/or destroyed’ IRS records relating to the targeting of conservative groups may be retrieved.” So how many Big Three (ABC, CBS, NBC) network stories have been dedicated to this latest revelation in the IRS scandal? 0. In a statement Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton declared: “The... continue reading
For years, liberal journalists have been predicting Republican doom with Hispanics, declaring that rage from the growing ethnic population would result in a permanent GOP minority. NBC's Matt Lauer, for instance, wondered if the severe "damage" could be repaired. Yet, the Republican landslide on Tuesday was powered, in part, by a strong showing with Latinos. So far, this has been ignored by ABC, CBS and NBC. In Texas, Republican Greg Abbott's aggressive outreach resulted in a strong 44 percent showing with Hispanics. The New York Times on Thursday described the impressive result in another competitive state: "In Kansas, Gov. Sam... continue reading
On Thursday night, NBC Nightly News played up the current political state of affairs in Washington as both Republicans and Democrats having “dug in” to their policy preferences, but focused only on how Republicans want to repeal “the President’s signature accomplishment” and are angered that he will go through with an executive order on illegal immigration. Anchor Brian Williams first teased the upcoming segment by NBC News senior White House correspondent Chris Jansing by wondering “how's that cooperation going that everybody promised after the election results.” [MP3 audio here ; Video below] Later, Williams introduced Jansing’s report by declaring that... continue reading
During Thursday’s CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley , Nancy Cordes continued to disparage conservatives, as she referred to some of the newly elected House of Representatives members as being to Speaker John Boehner’s “far right flank” and joining returning Representatives who stifled “Boehner’s own attempts” to address illegal immigration (that President Obama is expected to act upon soon in an executive order). Her choice of words regarding conservatives comes after she badgered Boehner at his weekly press conference earlier in the day, during which she asked him how he will “deal with” this “new crop of conservatives” that she... continue reading
Covering the midterms on election night, Nightline anchor Dan Harris huffed that Senator-elect Joni Ernst's 2014 campaign commercial was "downright bizarre." As the returns rolled in and it became clear that Democrats had suffered massive losses, Harris recapped the year's political commercials and the money behind them: "Most of it spent on a barrage of political ads that ranged from terrifying...to downright bizarre." [MP3 audio here .] He then played a clip of the Iowa Republican proclaiming, "I grew up castrating hogs on an Iowa farm. So when I get to Washington, I'll know how to cut pork." Nightline has... continue reading
Of the three network morning shows on Thursday, only NBC's Today highlighted Kentucky Senator Rand Paul's viral social media meme, #HillarysLosers , which pointed out that every Democratic candidate that would-be 2016 presidential contender Hillary Clinton campaigned for in 2014 lost in Tuesday's midterm election. At the top of the morning show, co-host Savannah Guthrie announced: "#HillarysLosers. Senator Rand Paul mocks Hillary Clinton on Twitter after nearly every candidate she campaigned for lost in the midterms." Minutes later, fellow co-host Matt Lauer reported: "...you think it's game on for 2016 already?...Senator Rand Paul, considered a hopeful for the presidency on... continue reading
