All three broadcast networks have, thus far, ignored the special treatment given to Onyango Obama, Barack Obama's illegal uncle who was arrested in 2011 on drunk driving. In contrast, however, the Spanish language channel Univision on Wednesday covered the story with a skeptical take about possible "favoritism." Onyango Obama will be allowed to stay in the country after a Boston judge reopened his case and intervened. Noticiero Univision reporter Luis Megid noted, "Onyango had a lot of luck, but there are those who ask if he would have had it if he hadn't been the President's uncle." Megid then featured... continue reading
On Monday, Rep. Darrell Issa, the chairman of the Oversight Committee investigating the IRS’s targeting of the Tea Party, made a stunning claim that the FBI was stonewalling his investigation. Last week, Issa was so frustrated with William Wilkins' testimony, in which he used the phrase “I don’t recall” 80 times, he accused the IRS chief counsel of “either a deliberate attempt to obfuscate” or “gross incompetence.” Number of Big Three (ABC, CBS, NBC) stories on these stunning allegations? Zero. On December 2 the Washington Times reported the following: “The House’s chief investigator says the FBI is stonewalling his inquiry... continue reading
On her MSNBC 1pm ET hour show on Wednesday, host Andrea Mitchell lamented the "astounding lack of accomplishment" in Congress throughout 2013, especially on "any kind of new gun laws, despite what happened in Newtown." [ Listen to the audio ] Talking to Democratic National Committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Mitchell promoted a new ad crudely exploiting the one-year anniversary of the school shooting to push gun restrictions: "There's a new public service announcement I want to share with you and our audience. This comes from the Moms Demanding Action for Gun Sense in America and the Mayors Against Illegal... continue reading
A giddy Chris Matthews on Wednesday night could barely contain himself. One day away from an exclusive interview with Barack Obama, Matthews opened the show by cheering, " I got the Christmas eve excitement brewing right here at Hardball . Because tomorrow night at precisely this time, seven o'clock eastern, the President of the United States is going to join us." [MP3 audio here .] Later in the show, the MSNBC anchor lobbied the President to be successful on his program: "Big night, big questions, big opportunity. I hope the President...makes the best of tomorrow night." Matthews described the Thursday... continue reading
After Martin Bashir announced his resignation from MSNBC on Wednesday following his vile attack on Sarah Palin, NBC, ABC, and CBS refused to make any mention of his disgraceful exit. The networks had already skipped any mention of his wildy offensive November 15 rant calling for Palin to be urinated and defecated on. As Media Research Center deputy research director Geoff Dickens reported early Wednesday – just hours before Bashir's resignation – such a media blackout stood in stark contrast to the two-week period after Rush Limbaugh called left-wing activist Sandra Fluke a "slut" in early 2012, prompting 32 network... continue reading
CNN's Piers Morgan accused conservative Ben Shapiro of "allowing more and more [graves] to be dug" after last year's Newtown shooting, simply because Shapiro opposes an "assault weapons" ban. Morgan tweeted his gun control rant on Wednesday after the 911 calls of the Newtown shooting were released. Shapiro has bested Morgan in two separate debates over gun laws, and called out Morgan for "standing on graves again." Morgan spat back , "While you demand your 'rights' to assault weapons, allowing more and more of them to be dug." "Britain banned all assault weapons AND handguns. Your country did NOTHING after... continue reading
On the same day that MSNBC's Martin Bashir resigned after suggesting someone defecate in Sarah Palin's mouth, colleague Ed Schultz lamented the "crudeness over on the right." This is the same Schultz who, on his radio program in 2011, slimed radio host Laura Ingraham as a " slut ." The Ed Show anchor's rant started over comments by Bill O'Reilly about whether users of food stamps waste money on drugs. Schultz sneered, "Meanwhile, there is Rush Limbaugh. He knows a thing or two about drug addiction." He mocked, "I'd like to see Limbaugh, see how he fares on $133 worth... continue reading
CBS This Morning stood out on Wednesday as the only Big Three newscast so far to devote any air time to a new gun control proposal by Democrats in Congress. Nancy Cordes reported on the " fierce opposition " to a proposed amendment to an extension of an existing ban on so-called "plastic guns," which would "require that all guns contain a piece of metal that cannot be removed." However, both of Cordes' talking heads during the segment were from Democratic supporters of the proposal, and she failed to include any soundbites from gun rights supporters. [MP3 audio available here... continue reading
Nineteen days after suggesting that someone should defecate in Sarah Palin's mouth, MSNBC's Martin Bashir resigned from the network. In a statement released on Wednesday, the liberal host announced, "Upon further reflection, and after meeting with the President of MSNBC, I have tendered my resignation. It is my sincere hope that all of my colleagues, at this special network, will be allowed to focus on the issues that matter without the distraction of myself or my ill-judged comments." He added, "I deeply regret what was said, will endeavor to work hard at making constructive contributions in the future and will... continue reading
On Tuesday's MSNBC Daily Rundown , host Chuck Todd was eager to declare the ObamaCare disaster to be over and claim Republicans were now of the defensive: "With 750,000 visitors to the site yesterday without a crash and the Obama administration now confident that the website is functioning...the Republican repeal movement may actually now fizzle out completely." [ Listen to the audio ] Todd attempted to bolster his assertion by citing leftist Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank, who on Monday declared that supposed fixes to HealthCare.gov meant that "opponents of the Affordable Care Act have lost what may have been... continue reading
