While supposedly updating viewers on important news of the day on Friday's NBC Today, fill-in news anchor Savannah Guthrie touted an Obama campaign public relations effort: "Well, just days after joining Pinterest, that online scrapbook, President Obama's catching some good-natured heat. He posted a family recipe for chili, always a topic of culinary debate." [ Listen to the audio or watch the video after the jump ] Guthrie happily explained: "And some Pinterest users cannot believe the President adds red wine vinegar to his mix. And others contend he does not throw in enough spice." It turns out the Obama... continue reading
CBS This Morning on Thursday gave New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg a platform to boost his pro-gun control agenda. Anchors Erica Hill and Charlie Rose tossed softball questions at the billionaire politician, enabling him spout his liberal talking points in favor of stricter gun regulations. Rose and Hill even let Bloomberg lecture the press about their supposed responsibility to push for gun control. The mayor forwarded a beyond irrational argument against armed self defense: " Somebody's banging on your door and says, I'm going to come in and kill you ... And this guy's got the gun out ..... continue reading
CNN's own legal analyst described Wednesday morning's Supreme Court hearing on ObamaCare as a "trainwreck" for the Obama administration and added "it may also be a plane wreck" – but prime-time hosts Anderson Cooper and Piers Morgan made only one brief mention between them of the bill's rough morning in court, during Wednesday night's prime-time coverage. In fact, during Tuesday and Wednesday night's newscasts, Morgan and Cooper made only two brief mentions of the hearings -- while the rest of CNN's afternoon coverage on those days heavily discussed the Court's hearings on ObamaCare. On Wednesday, CNN covered the Court's examination... continue reading
For the second straight day on Thursday, CNN emphasized Mitt Romney's wealth as a possible turn-off to voters. Correspondent Joe Johns aired a segment on Thursday's The Situation Room about "Mitt Romney-isms," or Romney's references to his own wealth and beliefs that seem to "hit the wrong note" for a presidential candidate. "Mitt Romney the millionaire may still have some problems with the average voter, because of his tone-deaf references to his personal wealth," Gloria Borger introduced Johns' Thursday story. On the previous day, Johns had authored a story about Romney's expensive car elevator at his California mansion. As NewsBusters... continue reading
On Wednesday's NBC Nightly News, anchor Brian Williams touted how "plans for Mitt Romney's home near San Diego include a four-car garage and a car elevator for each of the cars," and that "his opponents and Democrats will no doubt have at it." Later, on NBC's Rock Center , Williams announced: "So where does tonight's story come from? NBC News can confirm it came directly from the opposition research of a rival candidate." [ Listen to the audio ] Introducing a Rock Center report by correspondent Willie Geist on political opposition research, Williams proclaimed the Romney story was "only going... continue reading
The Obama administration suffered another bad day in the Supreme Court, Wednesday, leading many to wonder if all of the President's health care law will be entirely scrapped. ABC's Good Morning America on Thursday responded to this with silence, totally ignoring the story. GMA co-host George Stephanopoulos on Wednesday referred to the case as " historic ," but apparently lost interest a day later. The other two morning shows, Today and CBS This Morning , each offered one report. In total, over eight hours of possible broadcast time, the three networks allowed a scant four minutes and 19 seconds ... continue reading
On Monday’s edition of Newsweek/TheDaily Beast 's daily NewsBeast in-house video , the promotional “highlight” was Newsweek/Daily Beast assignment editor and reporter Allison Yarrow saying of Cheney: “But can you imagine being that organ donor?...I would never do it. I’d say ‘give me my heart back. ’” Welcome to the latest edition of Compassionate Liberals Show Their True Colors. Newsweek senior writer Ramin Setoodeh added, “I would never give my heart to Dick Cheney. In a piece of propaganda that would make Cuba's Castro regime proud, on her Tuesday MSNBC program, NBC chief foreign affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell cheered the communist state's "highly reg arded" health care system, "and especially one of Fidel Castro's signature projects, which is training doctors , doctors who then provide free medical care throughout Latin America." Mitchell proclaimed: "As the U.S. debates health care....We went back to the Latin American medical school here to talk to American medical students about what they're learning about medicine, about Cuba, and about themselves." That soon became disturbingly apparent as student Cynthia Aguilera... continue reading
Did CNN's Jeffrey Toobin just hint at his liberal bias? Toobin told Politico "I'm not exactly famous for my hatred of the Obama administration," and added that "If you're [sic] read my books, you know – I don't have a primetime spot on Fox News." CNN's senior legal analyst had made headlines for his dire analysis of ObamaCare's chances in the Supreme Court on Tuesday. He was explaining to Politico's Dylan Byers that his criticism of the Obama administration's defense of the bill was probably all the more noteworthy because he himself is not a big critic of Obama. Toobin... continue reading
Apparently, Soledad O'Brien's idea of a balanced discussion is three-to-one Democratic majority. Three out of the four guests she hosted on Wednesday's Starting Point to discuss the ObamaCare hearings were Democrats, and the CNN host did not press them to defend the health care bill's constitutionality. Her questions simply focused on the state of the legislation and the implications of the Supreme Court decision, teeing up the Democrats to defend the bill and downplay the chance that the individual mandate will be overturned. O'Brien's guests were Senator Jack Reed (D-R.I.), Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), Obama 2012 deputy campaign manager... continue reading
