During a panel discussion on Monday's NBC Today about the acquittal of George Zimmerman, left-wing MSNBC host Toure proclaimed the court case to be evidence of inherent racism in American society: "We have an almost all-white jury. We almost never get justice in that situation, especially in the south.... I'm taken back to Emmett Till and Amadou Diallo and Iona Jones and all these other situations where we understand that black life means a little bit less than white life in America." [ Listen to the audio ] MSNBC analyst and liberal bomb-thrower Michael Eric Dyson was also on the... continue reading
On Friday's PoliticsNation , MSNBC legal analyst Lisa Bloom complained that prosecutors did not "have the guts" to make an issue of race in trying to convict George Zimmerman. She began: They fought so hard to get into evidence those prior events where George Zimmerman called about African-American males in the community. One hundred percent of the calls he made about suspicious people in the community were about African-American males. They got it in, and then they didn’t argue it in closing argument. And so what the jury heard was the defense version of well, it’s very reasonable that he... continue reading
ABC has officially announced that one of the vacant spots on The View will be filled by Catholic-bashing, anti-vaccine conspiracy theorist Jenny McCarthy. In a statement, creator/co-host Barbara Walters gushed , "She can be serious and outrageous. She has connected with our audience and offers a fresh point of view. Jenny will be a great addition to the show as we usher in an exciting new chapter for The View ." Last week, token conservative Elisabeth Hasselbeck departed the show for Fox News. The former Playboy model wrote a book in 2012 deriding Catholicism, complaining that it "has pervaded my... continue reading
On Monday's NBC Today , co-host Savannah Guthrie suggested to MSNBC host and National Action Network president Al Sharpton that the trial of Trayvon Martin shooter George Zimmerman was not racially charged enough: "Do you think the prosecutors missed an opportunity there, that they didn't explicitly make this case about racial profiling?" [ Listen to the audio ] In response, Sharpton pushed his effort to get the Justice Department to charge Zimmerman with civil rights violations: "I think they did, but it also sets up a federal case because you can't say it's been tried, because it wasn't tried. So... continue reading
On Friday's All In show, MSNBC host Chris Hayes took exception with one of his guests, attorney Seema Iyer, who proclaimed that "there should be" riots if George Zimmerman were acquitted. The normally far-left Hayes found himself in the position of having to pull his panel of guests back a bit from the far left: "I don't think there will be riots, and I don’t want to call to them because I don’t think there should be riots." MSNBC contributor James Peterson then chimed in, "I'm not calling for peace either, right?" A bit later, after Peterson asserted that Zimmerman... continue reading
On Thursday's All In show, as Chris Hayes complained about the vote by House Republicans to separate the food stamp program from the farm bill, the MSNBC host accused GOPers of taking the action "so they could focus solely on the farm stuff and really embrace not caring about the poor." Hayes also charged that Republicans had "jettisoned 47 million hungry Americans." The MSNBC host began the segment: But we begin tonight with an absolute eruption of shock and fury on the floor of the House of Representatives as Republicans jettisoned 47 million hungry Americans so they can get on... continue reading
On Friday's New Day , CNN slapped Senate Republicans for "vicious" rhetoric and "dysfunctional" behavior while ignoring Majority Leader Harry Reid's hypocrisy and President Obama's controversial recess appointments. After Republicans refused to approve the President's nominees to various federal agencies, including three that were appointed without the confirmation of the Senate which was in "pro forma" session at the time, Majority Leader Harry Reid threatened to do away with the filibuster on Thursday. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell ripped into Reid, and CNN harped on his "vicious" rhetoric and the "dysfunctional" intransigence of Republicans. [Video below. For the third time in a week, ABC's Good Morning America failed to identify a politician involved in sex scandal as a Democrat. Amy Robach reported on Friday that "accusations of sexual harassment have been swirling around Mayor Bob Filner for weeks" and that the San Diego politician "apologized for what he called inappropriate behavior", but didn't include his party ID. By contrast, Gayle King explicitly mentioned Filner's political affiliation on Friday's CBS This Morning : " The Democrat spent ten terms in Congress before becoming mayor less than a year ago . " Robach also noted during her news... continue reading
While NBC and CBS covered Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell having a "war of words" over GOP opposition to some of President Obama's nominees, neither network detailed the hypocrisy of Reid considering the so-called "nuclear option" to eliminate the filibustering of such nominees. On Thursday, Time's Michael Scherer cited numerous quotes from Reid decrying the tactic in 2005, when Senate Republicans – then in the majority – toyed with the idea. In one statement, Reid warned that such a move would "set a new precedent – an illegal precedent – that will always remain... continue reading
On Wednesday's All In show, MSNBC host Chris Hayes complained of a "right-wing trope about the specter of racial violence" if George Zimmerman is acquitted, and suggested that FNC hosts like Bill O'Reilly are trying to manipulate their audience by frightening them, cracking that "a good Fox News audience is a fearful Fox News audience." As he interviewed University of Connecticut Professor Jelani Cobb, the MSNBC host complained that conservatives are treating black Americans similarly to Zimmerman's treatment of Trayvon Martin. Hayes: So here's what frustrates, angers me genuinely about this, is, what conservatives are doing to black people at... continue reading
