While Monday's NBC Today began its 7 a.m. ET hour coverage of the ObamaCare enrollment deadline by noting the healthcare.gov website had crashed yet again, it took an hour for ABC's Good Morning America and CBS This Morning to notice the malfunction and mention it in their reporting. [ Listen to the audio ] Good Morning America's initial coverage was particularly stunning in that it touted how well the website was supposedly working. Co-host George Stephanopoulos proclaimed: "After all those early problems with the website, the White House now saying things are now back on track." White House correspondent Jon... continue reading
Here’s a real shocker. Someone in Hollywood confessing they are “patriotic.” Mindy Kaling , the star and creator of Fox’s The Mindy Project , admitted on Friday’s Charlie Rose show that she’s “weirdly patriotic” -- because of course being patriotic in the left-leaning entertainment industry must be considered weird. Still it was refreshing to hear someone in Hollywood celebrate American exceptionalism, as she proudly asserted: “This is going to make me sound like I’m a thousand years old, but this could only happen in America and I’m weirdly patriotic because my parents are immigrants and I feel so unbelievably lucky... continue reading
CBS This Morning co-anchor Norah O'Donnell on Monday adopted alarmist language for global warming. She referred to climate skeptics as "deniers." CBS offered two stories on a new United Nations report predicting catastrophic weather in the future. Physicist Michio Kaku appeared as a guest and worried, "But collectively, 100-year storms, 100-year floods, 100-year droughts, 100-year forest fires. I mean, something very dangerously is happening with the weather." O'Donnell sneered, "And to those climate change deniers?" [MP3 audio here .] In an earlier news brief, O'Donnell predicted doom: "And a United Nations report out this morning paints a bleak picture for... continue reading
Appearing on Monday's Today , NBC's chief White House correspondent and political director Chuck Todd seized on ObamaCare hitting the six million sign-up mark by the March 31 deadline, proclaiming: "So at a minimum, the importance of hitting the six million....it means the law is unrepealable....It means that it's here to stay." Todd made no mention of only 26% of Americans supporting ObamaCare in a new poll . [ Listen to the audio ] Co-host Matt Lauer accepted Todd's declaration and wondered about the political impact of the health care law: "You can't repeal it, but does that mean seven... continue reading
NBC’s Chuck Todd filled in for David Gregory as moderator of Meet the Press on Sunday and took the opportunity to mock Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) for a campaign ad he ran last week. At issue for Todd was an ad by McConnell which erroneously featured an image of two Duke University basketball players mistaken for Kentucky Wildcats, to which Todd ridiculed “was a whole mess that day because first he had the wrong thing, then he changed it, then the NCAA said oh you can’t use our players and then, pretty much insult to injury, ” his Louisville team... continue reading
Washington Post’s David Ignatius Cheers On Obama ‘Trying To Understand’ the Way Putin Sees the World
Appearing on CBS’s Face the Nation on Sunday, the Washington Post ’s David Ignatius did his best to shill for President Obama following the President’s interview with CBS’s Scott Pelley. Following a clip of Obama relating how Putin sees the world -- “I think he's been willing to show a deeply held grievance about what he considers to be the loss of the Soviet Union” -- the veteran Post reporter and columnist opined to host Bob Schieffer: “ President Obama I thought was trying to do something that I just heard Henry Kissinger at a private gathering at Yale say,... continue reading
Friday's CBS Evening News featured a previously unaired portion of Scott Pelley's softball interview of President Obama on his recent meeting with Pope Francis. The Vatican noted on Thursday that "there was a discussion on questions of particular relevance for the Church...such as the exercise of the rights to religious freedom, life and conscientious objection " – a reference to the Catholic Church's objection to ObamaCare's abortifacient/contraception mandate. But instead of asking about this discussion, Pelley gave the President the kid glove treatment, and wondered how the encounter affected the liberal politician: [MP3 audio available here ; video below ]... continue reading
Piers Morgan got in one last word in favor of gun control during the final episode of his CNN program on Friday, and called for the complete disarmament of the American citizenry: "As my brother, a British army colonel, says, 'You always want an American next to you in a trench when the going gets tough.' But that's where, I think, guns belong ...in the hands of highly-trained men and women fighting for democracy and freedom, not in the hands of civilians ." Morgan blasted the NRA by name and politicians for standing in the way of his pet cause:... continue reading
Friday's CBS Evening News picked up where the Big Three morning shows left off earlier in the day and trumpeted how " visitors have been surging to [HealthCare.gov] – about one-and-half million a day ." Scott Pelley did give a bit of slightly bad news during his 16-second news brief, noting that "today, the ObamaCare website was taken down for about 20 minutes, to fix a problem that affected log-ins." [MP3 audio available here ; video below ] However, the CBS evening newscast, along with Friday's NBC Nightly News and ABC's World News , glossed over the latest Associated Press... continue reading
To accompany ABC's tough interview of New Jersey governor Chris Christie, Friday's Nightline quoted New Jersey Democrats slamming him as a vengeful "bully." World News anchor Diane Sawyer noted that "critics remember the lure of Christie's brash personal style" before airing clips of Democrats pounding him. Sawyer pressed Christie repeatedly over New Jersey's bridge closure scandal, but she barely mentioned Benghazi in an October 2012 interview with President Obama, a month before the election. Here are the two quotes ABC aired about Christie: "He [Christie] is a bully. Simple as that. If you disagree with him, he's going to get... continue reading
