Vice President of Philanthropy
Scott Russell is the Vice President of Philanthropy for the Media Research Center, overseeing the major gifts and foundation staff.
Before joining MRC, Scott was the Vice President of Development at the Georgia Center for Opportunity in Atlanta, and previously the Vice President of Development at the Family Foundation of Virginia. Scott also worked at the Mercatus Center and Institute for Humane Studies at George Mason University.
Scott has an extensive background in politics. In Virginia, he served as Chairman of the Fauquier County Republican Party. Back in Colorado, Scott worked for Governor Bill Owens and Lt. Governor Jane Norton, and served as Political Director of the Colorado Republican Party. Scott was also a member of the Palmer Lake Town Council.
Scott earned a master’s degree in international commerce and policy from George Mason University after graduating from Youngstown State University with a bachelor’s degree in political science.
He is also an Eagle Scout and volunteer firefighter. As a civic-minded youngster, Scott won Greenford, Ohio’s “Junior Citizen of the Year.”
In his free time, Scott is involved in a beehive of activities — literally. If you’re on Scott’s gift list, you might receive a jar of 100% pure certified honey because his favorite hobby is beekeeping. Aside from corralling honeybees, Scott enjoys backpacking, hiking, camping, and conservation. An adamant reader, Scott is currently working his way through The Collected Works of theologian John Piper.
On what motivates him every day at the MRC? Scott says, “Working with great people to achieve a critically important mission.”
