Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski began Monday's show by gushing over Joe Biden, enthusing that the Vice President is "our guy." She also rhapsodized, "I love him" [MP3 audio available here ]. The MSNBC anchor's comments came in the wake of an appearance Biden made on Sunday where he declared Democrats would retain the House and the Senate. Brzezinski, who makes no effort to hide her affiliation with the current administration, just cannot seem to get enough of Biden. At one point, she touted, "I got to tell you, I have got a great deal of respect for him and... continue reading
The Daily Caller has another scoop on the leftist JournoList e-mails on Tuesday, recalling when liberal scribes all wanted the Jeremiah Wright story to be dead and buried in the spring of 2008. Jonathan Strong explained "Employees of news organizations including Time, Politico, the Huffington Post, the Baltimore Sun, the Guardian, Salon and the New Republic participated in outpourings of anger over how Obama had been treated in the media, and in some cases plotted to fix the damage." Stephanopoulos asked [at a debate], "Do you think Reverend Wright loves America as much as you do?"...The tough questioning from ABC... continue reading
After the network pushed Congress for weeks to extend unemployment benefits, CBS's Early Show cheered the expected passage of the legislation on Tuesday. Co-host Harry Smith noted how Democrats "have enough votes to break a GOP filibuster" and White House correspondent Chip Reid later added: "Democrats appear to have won a major battle in the long fight to extend unemployment benefits." Reid portrayed the Democrats as standing on the side of the American people against obstructionist Republicans: "...this unemployment benefits extension has been stalled in the Senate since June. If it passes, millions of Americans will start getting about $309... continue reading
Good Morning America's Claire Shipman on Tuesday delivered a one-sided report on unemployment benefits and the fact that they end after 99 weeks. Reporting on those who have reached the limit, the so-called "99ers," she asserted, "... There's no hope in sight right now ." Shipman featured three clips of those who are at the cap and one of Democrat Debbie Stabenow, who is advocating for an extension. However, the ABC morning show found no time for anyone with the opinion that nearly two years of unemployment benefits is enough. Instead, Shipman offered only stories of struggling people who have... continue reading
NBC's Peter Alexander, on Tuesday's Today show, mocked Sarah Palin for making up a word, 'refudiate' in her tweets about the Ground Zero mosque controversy. However when Joe Biden, the gaffe machine that he can be, made an arguably much more embarrassing mistake back in March, of falsely asserting that the Irish prime minister's mother was dead, the Today show, as Newsbusters' Scott Whitlock reported then , ignored it. Alexander, after initially reporting about the former Alaska governor wading into the controversy surrounding the building of a mosque at the Ground Zero site, then poked fun at Palin combining two... continue reading
NBC's Matt Lauer, suddenly turned into a deficit hawk, when he invited on Newt Gingrich on Tuesday's Today show, to discuss the GOP's refusal to extend unemployment benefits without paying for them, as he complained to the House Speaker that those same Republicans didn't offer spending cuts to offset the Bush tax cut and pressed: "Is it funny math?" and "traditionally speaking when you cut taxes, don't deficits go up as well?" Gingrich initially agreed that the deficit in the "short run" goes up but explained to the Today show anchor that "we proved with Reagan, with the three-year tax... continue reading
One day after suggesting that terrorist attacks during Barack Obama's watch be " set aside ," Good Morning America's George Stephanopoulos grilled Michelle Bachmann, forcing her to respond for every supposed crime of the Tea Party movement. The former Democratic operative wondered if being "more formally aligned with the Tea Party" movement could " undermine Republican chances of taking the House back in November ." He then quizzed, "What did you think when you saw that billboard, comparing the President to Hitler and Lenin?" [MP3 audio here .] In contrast, during Iraq war protests, vulgar, sometimes violent signs held up... continue reading
Chris Matthews, on Monday's Hardball, actually reported on two different Tea Party organizations condemning Mark Williams, of Tea Party Express, for penning a racially charged satire, however Matthews wasn't impressed, as he questioned the sincerity of the Tea Party movement's commitment to fighting discrimination, and demanded that they do more to remove "racist signs at the next Tea Party rally." After reciting some of Williams' "fictional letter" the Hardball host then noted that both the National Tea Party Federation and the Tea Party Nation chastised Williams, but Matthews wasn't buying it as he commanded tea partiers at the next rally... continue reading
Rick Sanchez stumbled again on-air on his CNN program on Monday, getting the year of the famous Kennedy-Nixon television debate wrong by a margin of two years. Sanchez, who was trying to describe South Carolina Democratic senatorial candidate Alvin Greene's first public speech as the "converse" of the debate, initially guessed 1962 as the year of the debate , but then broadened his answer to " early '60s " [audio available here ]. The anchor, who misidentified the Galapagos Islands as Hawaii during CNN's live coverage of the February 27, 2010 Chilean earthquake, and "joked" that it was too cold... continue reading
While MSNBC has spent a week or so playing the allegation of Tea Party racism in heavy rotation, on Monday's Morning Joe on MSNBC, anchor Mika Brzezinski devoted a segment to the controversy over the New Black Panther Party, inviting New York Times columnist Charles Blow on board. Blow denounced the group and agreed that the Justice Department needs to answer questions, but he predictably tried to argue conservatives are outrageous in suggesting the "strange logic" that Team Obama's actions say something about Team Obama and racial justice: The political part of it is, I think, the most inflammatory part... continue reading
