CNN's Wolf Blitzer admitted Monday that he believed Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) when the congressman told him in an interview that he did not send a lewd photo of himself over Twitter. Blitzer related to CNN's Piers Morgan Monday evening his thoughts immediately after the interview. "I'm saying to myself, you know what, it sounds to me like it may have been his picture, but it was out there, but somebody else hacked it and somebody else sent it out to embarrass him. I sort of believed, you know, that line," he confessed. [Click here for audio. Video below.] Blitzer... continue reading
Conservative author Ann Coulter appeared on CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight on Tuesday evening to promote her new book, Demonic, which argues that liberals are historically prone to a mob mentality. But host Piers Morgan used Coulter's thesis as a launching pad to make several insulting jabs at the Tea Party, even suggesting that those protesting against big government are somehow "similar" to the mobs drummed up by fascist dictators Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini. And, when Coulter said she "loved" the Tea Party, Morgan seemed flabbergasted: "I don't get that because you're a smart cookie," before again impugning the Tea... continue reading
For the third time in as many weeknights, the NBC Nightly News has devoted airtime to the fuss over Sarah Palin's recounting of Paul Revere's ride at the onset of the Revolutionary War. This time, the newscast featured a full report by correspondent Lee Cowan showcasing how both Palin supporters and detractors have been attempting to edit the Wikipedia page about Revere. That's the same issue that bothered anchor Brian Williams on Monday night (Williams was off on Tuesday, with Lester Holt substituting). On the June 6 broadcast, Williams noted that "a political web site reported today Palin supporters have... continue reading
ABC's George Stephanopoulos went beyond challenging assumptions from Ann Coulter's newest book "Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Endangering America" on Tuesday, as he repeatedly attempted to correct her on historical facts. The former Clinton advisor interrupted her multiple times on Tuesday's Good Morning America to make a point that she was either wrong or lying about history. You are entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts, said the late Democrat Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan. Yet Stephanopoulos interrupted Coulter as she claimed that the Ku Klux Klan in the South was Democratic. "Started out Democratic, but turned... continue reading
In an interview with Andrew Breitbart on Tuesday's NBC Today, co-host Matt Lauer suggested the conservative blogger should not have broken news of the scandal involving Congressman Anthony Weiner: "Did you worry that - you know, as a conservative, you don't want government in people's bedrooms. And so did you stop and have a debate with yourself about that?" Moments earlier, Breitbart had noted feeling some sympathy for Weiner during Monday's press conference: "I felt so unbelievably sad for this guy." Lauer responded by wondering why that sympathy didn't keep the BigGovernment.com creator from re-posting Weiner's racy tweet on the... continue reading
Asked by new CBS Evening News anchor Scott Pelley why Congressman Anthony Weiner "matters," CBS Capitol Hill reporter Nancy Cordes on Monday night maintained he's vital as a critic pushing Obama from the left. "The President has a lot of critics on the right," Cordes noted, "but Weiner is one of his most outspoken critics on the left wherever liberals feel that the President is straying too far from their principles," so "it's unclear how well he's really going to be able to perform that role now, a role that even the President has said is very important." Yes, "even"... continue reading
Offended by Rick Santorum's assertion that President Obama is not feared by America's enemies, ABC anchor George Stephanopoulos stuck up for the President Monday and pressed Santorum to give evidence to his claim. The former Pennsylvania senator was announcing his bid for the presidency on ABC's Good Morning America, and Stephanopoulos hit him early and often during the interview. "You've also argued that our enemies don't fear President Obama, but where's the evidence of that?" Stephanopoulos asked. "The al Qaeda leadership has been decimated, Osama bin Laden is dead, no significant attack against the United States has been successful. Where... continue reading
The network elites completely avoided discussing Weinergate on the chat/interview shows this weekend. On Sunday, NBC's Meet the Press was off due to the French Open. ABC's This Week, CBS's Face the Nation, and CNN's State of the Union all failed to utter even the name of Anthony Weiner - which was especially bizarre on CBS, since host Bob Schieffer interviewed House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. Would Pelosi dismiss Weiner's antics as a "personal matter" like DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz? CBS skipped it. The same goes for Friday night's Washington Week on PBS. So much for the "week in... continue reading
Chrystia Freeland made a series of bizarre statements Monday on MSNBC that were overshadowed only by Anthony Weiner's "contrite" presser during which the Democratic Congressman admitted to tweeting the infamous crotch photo and lying to cover it up. Before the press conference, the Reuters editor-at-large quipped that the Twitter controversy showed that Eliot Spitzer, who resigned as New York governor in 2008 after being caught sleeping with prostitutes, " is a really classy guy. " But that was only the beginning. Immediately after the presser, when asked by MSNBC anchor Dylan Ratigan for her initial thoughts, Freeland gushed: " Today... continue reading
On Friday's Hardball on MSNBC, host Chris Matthews proposed a GOP conspiracy behind the indictment of former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards: "Do you think there's politics in this prosecution? Was it just a Republican U.S. attorney going after this guy, sticking around to do the dirty work for the 'R's?" [ Audio available here ] Matthews posed that question to Democratic strategist and former Edwards spokesperson Karen Finney, even she wasn't buying it: "You know, I don't know." Undeterred, Matthews continued his bizarre rant: "But this looks like one of those things you read about in third world countries... continue reading
