Despite the fact that Nancy Pelosi has failed to produce any evidence to back up her claim that she "knows something" about Newt Gingrich that would end his candidacy, on Thursday's NBC Today, co-host Matt Lauer still touted her unfounded remarks: "...she makes this comment saying, 'Newt Gingrich will not be president, there's something I know.' Now that in itself sounds pretty alarming." Talking to special correspondent Tom Brokaw, Lauer suggested Pelosi must have some really damaging information that needs to be made public: "Clearly, she's hinting that she learned something that will make, will disqualify him as president. Does... continue reading
'The secretary speaks,' ABC fill-in anchor David Muir excitedly teased at the top of Wednesday's World News , 'billionaire investor Warren Buffett and his secretary, who pays a much-higher tax rate than him. He says not fair. She's now at the center of a huge debate. What does she think? An ABC News exclusive.' Muir promised that 'tonight we hear from the secretary for the first time,' but she merely got to utter one sentence as ABC used her as a poster girl to hike taxes. Reporter Bianna Golodryga recounted 'a hero's welcome' back in Omaha for 'for a secretary... continue reading
Alex Wagner made an eye-popping remark on her MSNBC program on Wednesday, as she hinted that she agreed with former Obama spokesman Bill Burton's assertion that Ronald Reagan would feel out of place in today's GOP. When Burton claimed that " Reagan wouldn't have a chance in this Republican primary right now ," Wagner stunningly replied, " I think he'd be a Democrat probably " [audio available here ]. The anchor, a former employee of the left-leaning Center for American Progress, also touted a quote from Thomas Mann of The Brookings Institution and Norman Ornstein of AEI, who claim in... continue reading
President Obama has called for the Buffett Rule - higher taxes on millionaires - and CNN helped him make his case in a one-sided segment Wednesday afternoon. Anchor Brooke Baldwin begged for her viewers' attention before she aired Obama's liberal spin on taxes from his State of the Union address. She then highlighted millionaire Mitt Romney's low tax rate, "adding fuel to the fire that the incredibly affluent, the rich folks, pay taxes at a lower rate than the average person," she hyped. [Video below the break.] CNN then hosted "economist" Ben Stein - who just happens to agree with... continue reading
During live coverage after the State of the Union, ABC's George Stephanopoulos informed, "...Vice President Biden just before the speech gave a call to Democrats. And he summed up the speech with this phrase, Bin Laden is dead, General Motors is alive ." MP3 audio here .] On the same day's Nightline , with no explanation that he was plagiarizing Biden's line, co-anchor Terry Moran parroted, " Osama bin Laden is dead. General Motors is alive . Those points folded neatly into another of the President's goals, to wrap himself in the American flag." Spouting similar pro-Obama talking points, Moran... continue reading
In an interview with Mitt Romney following the State of the Union Tuesday night, NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams used the tax returns of the former Massachusetts governor as a weapon: "And it's fair to ask tonight, will you be explaining further the story of them, the back story.... the amounts we've learned about today equaling unfathomable wealth for most Americans..." Earlier in the evening, at the top of Nightly News , Williams was equally melodramatic: "...Mitt Romney, chose today to release his tax returns from the year 2010. He did it to help stop the questions about his... continue reading
Joy Behar, on Wednesday's edition of The View , delivered a rave review for Barack Obama's State of the Union of Speech as she gushed that it was 'equivalent to Ronald Reagan's 'Morning in America' speech and added 'Republicans can embrace him' now. Behar then went on to say that the President's speech, that was devoted to the kind of class warfare talk The Gipper would have despised, should motivate the Republicans to 'start cooperating' and 'stop this gridlock because it's not patriotic!' Aside from not recognizing that the President would not have supported Obama's call to soak the rich,... continue reading
Ex-Clinton aide George Stephanopoulos continued to nakedly promote the Democratic agenda, prompting Joe Biden on Wednesday to agree that Newt Gingrich is "playing racial politics" with his attacks on Barack Obama. Rather than force the Vice President to spout his own talking points, the Good Morning America co-host tossed this softball: " You called the former Speaker's statements ridiculous. But, do you think he's playing racial politics when he calls President Obama a food stamp president ?" [MP3 audio here .] Stephanopoulos's previous question set Biden up to attack: "[Newt Gingrich] said that the President 'will always prefer a food... continue reading
Moments after President Obama concluded his State of the Union address on Tuesday, NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams could barely contain his glee over the speech: "A rousing recitation, a reminder of why the nation is great from President Obama." [ Listen to the audio ] Meet the Press host David Gregory was next to take up the pom-poms, as he proclaimed: "Well, this is the power of the presidency....This was a president who was very forceful.... This was his pitch for re-election. Economic fairness is at the core of it." Williams played off Gregory's comment and sounded like... continue reading
CNN cast an unfavorable image of Mitt Romney's just-released tax forms on Tuesday morning, warning that his overseas wealth and low tax rate might drive away voters. However, the network failed to report in the same segment his tax-deductible charitable contributions. "It's a bad economy, people are out of work. This doesn't look so good from the average American's standpoint," anchor Kyra Phillips argued during the 9 a.m. hour of Newsroom. CNN contributor Clyde Anderson added that the "general voting public" would be at odds with Romney's offshore wealth. "People are hurting," he insisted. "And so when you see things... continue reading
