Charlie Rose desperately tried to find confirmation from former Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Wednesday's CBS This Morning on whether President Obama is a good commander-in-chief: " You can answer this question as well as anyone I know .... do you give President Obama high marks in the national security arena? " Gates exposed Rose's pro-Obama tactic when he laughingly replied, " If I don't, I'm sort of giving myself a flunking grade ." The veteran national security official did his best to nuance his eventual answer, but still ended up giving his former boss the grade that the anchor... continue reading
After the Obama campaign released an ad on Monday attacking Mitt Romney's record at Bain Capital, CNN went so far as to question President Obama's hypocrisy in attacking Romney. In contrast, MSNBC hosts joined Team Obama on the offensive. CNN first reported the ad during the 9 and 10 a.m. hours of Monday, and by that evening anchor John King hosted a former venture capitalist who defended the business practices of Bain. Meanwhile, MSNBC's Martin Bashir and the network's prime-time lineup were cheerleaders for the Obama campaign on Monday. "It's the Bain of Mitt's existence," sneered Bashir at the beginning... continue reading
Appearing on CBS's Late Show with David Letterman on Tuesday, NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams heaped his idea of high praise onto CBS Evening News anchor Scott Pelley: "Scott grew up firmly in the Dan Rather school of journalism, which is a great tradition." [ Listen to the audio ] Despite that laughable reference to the disgraced former CBS News anchor , who was fired for using forged National Guard memos to smear President George W. Bush in 2004, Williams was quite sincere in his supposed compliment to Pelley. Letterman wondered: "Is he [Pelley] the tradition of the great... continue reading
60 Minutes journalist Lesley Stahl is apparently concerned about how such "out of the mainstream" Republicans ran in the 2012 presidential primaries, given what a "centrist" country America is. Stahl moderated a New York Historical Society discussion on the state of the race. Time journalist Joe Klein appeared at the May 3 event to smear conservative groups as racist. After noting that he attended a Tea Party rally in Arkansas, Klein mocked the organization's fears at this: " And there are Mexican Americans all over the place and their grandchildren are marrying out of their race or becoming gay. The... continue reading
In a particularly sleazy allegation, David Letterman on Tuesday night alleged former President George W. Bush and former Vice President Dick Cheney “went soft” on finding Osama bin Laden “because they were worried about upsetting their Saudi Arabian royalty buddies.” Talk about a lack of civility and respect for elected officials. Letterman’s impugning of the former administration came during a sit-down with NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams, just after Letterman charged “we invaded Iraq because Cheney wanted to help out his buddies at Brown and Root and Halliburton.” He then moved on to his allegation about protecting the Saudi... continue reading
The latest CBS News/ New York Times poll not only shows Mitt Romney ahead of Barack Obama by three points, but also that Romney is leading among women voters. That was such an embarrassing result that CBS This Morning totally skipped it on Tuesday. By contrast, on ABC's Good Morning America , George Stephanopoulos and Jake Tapper openly discussed how it's a "stunning poll" and "bad news for Obama." Team Obama complained the poll was biased. Well, there was certainly bias in CBS omitting their own poll results. On Monday's CBS Evening News , Scott Pelley briefly mentioned the head-to-head... continue reading
Appearing as a guest on Tuesday's Conan show on TBS, HBO comedian Bill Maher absurdly suggested the recent allegations that Mitt Romney engaged in "bullying" in high school are worse than being molested by Michael Jackson, and asserted that he would be willing trade being beat up in grade school for being "gently masturbated by a pop star." Maher also again attacked Mormonism and religion generally, using uncensored vulgarity, and seemed to hold Romney responsible for the polygamy of his grandfather. The Real Time host brought up Michael Jackson to suggest that Romney had behaved worse than a child molester:... continue reading
Anchor Erica Hill gave actress Jane Lynch a platform on Tuesday's CBS This Morning to laud President Obama's flip-flop on same-sex "marriage." Hill set it up by citing a recent Tweet from the open homosexual: " You weighed in ... on Twitter actually and you thanked him [Obama] f or the dignity that those words brought you ." Lynch gushed, " I really felt it ..... It really moved me. It touched me ." [audio available here ] Obama supporter and co-anchor Gayle King herself waxed ecstatic over the presidential announcement in her follow-up question to Lynch: " Did you... continue reading
CNN's Don Lemon compared Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney to former Alabama governor -- and segregationist -- George Wallace on Sunday evening. What prompted the jarring comparison? Romney's commencement speech at Liberty University, where he said marriage is between a man and a woman. The openly-gay CNN anchor played Romney's words immediately after a clip of Governor Wallace crying for "segregation now, segregation tomorrow, and segregation forever!" Wallace, Lemon explained, later "evolved" and lived to regret those words, and opponents of same-sex marriage might do the same. The subject of the segment was "words that come back to haunt you."... continue reading
CNN's Don Lemon said last year that he hoped to " change minds " when he declared that he was gay. And on Sunday evening he showed exactly where he lies on same-sex marriage and in no small words challenged the fundamental beliefs of its opponents, comparing them to those who opposed interracial marriage and integration. He later compared Mitt Romney to segregationist Governor George Wallace, but during the 6 p.m. hour Lemon hosted activist Rev. Joseph Lowery – who also gave the benediction at President Obama's inauguration – and both of them criticized opponents of same-sex marriage. "When I... continue reading
