CNN's own national poll has Obama and Romney tied, but that didn't stop anchor Brooke Baldwin from asking Monday if Republicans are already giving up on the election. "Do you hear any of the Republicans giving up the fight?" she foolishly asked Rep. Diane Black (R-Tenn.) after Republican Haley Barbour said that Hurricane Sandy "broke Romney's momentum." [Video below. Audio here .] "The hurricane is what broke Romney's momentum," stated Barbour on Sunday's State of the Union . Baldwin blew that up to be, as "some folks" said, "a bit like an early post-mortem" from Republicans. Baldwin didn't mention what... continue reading
In a Monday item on Fox News.com , Bret Baier revealed CBS's surreptitious posting of a previously-unreleased clip from Steve Kroft's September 12, 2012 interview of President Obama. During the nearly eight-week-old clip, Kroft pointed out something that Obama didn't say during his press conference earlier in the day on the Islamist attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi: "This morning, you went out of your way to avoid the use of the word 'terrorism' in connection with the Libya attack. Do you believe that this was a terrorist attack? " The President didn't dispute the correspondent's contention, and replied... continue reading
Through sympathetic alchemy, New York Times Magazine political writer Matt Bai managed to transform Barack Obama's factually loose biography as a sign of "his narrative sophistication, his novelistic instinct for developing themes and characters that make his point" in his profile capturing the disappointment of Obama's supporters (which seem to include Bai himself), " Still Waiting for the Narrator in Chief ." Presidents generally don’t like to admit mistakes, so it was interesting when Barack Obama owned up to one during an interview with Charlie Rose on CBS last summer. It was the job of the president, Obama said, to... continue reading
Chris Matthews in a special Sunday night Hardball slammed the south as racist and insisted that quoting Barack Obama is bigoted. An incredulous Matthews explained, "And topping it off, we heard Romney himself out here in Ohio today tying all this trash talk together, the president is bent on, get this, revenge." Of course, while talking to voters last week, the President actually said, "Voting is the best revenge." In another appearance, on Sunday's Last Word , Matthews appeared totally unaware of the context "Well, where did this revenge come from? Where did that line come from?" [See video below.]... continue reading
On Sunday's 60 Minutes , CBS's Steve Kroft tried to paper over Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's role in fostering deadlock in the Senate. Kroft spotlighted Reid's "responsibility" for setting the body's agenda, but quickly added that the Nevada senator has "just as much of a responsibility as Senator McConnell - to make the system work and to do some things ." The correspondent also turned to Steven Smith, who hinted that the Republican minority in the Senate was to blame for the "deadlock" in Congress, despite Reid's Democratic majority not passing a budget in over 3 years: "If... continue reading
On Sunday's NBC Meet the Press , moderator David Gregory urged both Obama campaign advisor David Plouffe and Republican House Majority Leader Eric Cantor to agree that Hurricane Sandy provided a boost to the President: "The indelible images of this week had to do with Hurricane Sandy and an impact on this race because of the President's time and the images that we saw..." [ Listen to the audio ] Gregory added: "Governor Christie in New Jersey, who as we heard gave him [Obama] such high marks... was this the October surprise, these political foes, together in leadership, and Christie... continue reading
A fresh insertion of leftist politics into prime time entertainment television. On Sunday night’s The Good Wife on CBS, which is set in Chicago, a judge strode into court and observed: “I hope you’re staying cool today on this unusually hot November day.” He then declared, “I hope you don’t mind me saying: Global warming 1, skeptics 0.” He next insisted, in a case of a contractor who supposedly assaulted a soldier in Afghanistan, “I have great respect for all those in uniform, no matter how our government sees fit to employ them.” Last season , the same “Judge Charles... continue reading
When, ten minutes into the October 28 Meet the Press , guest panelist Carly Fiorina brought up Benghazi, host David Gregory cut her off, but promised: “We’ll get to Libya a little bit later.” The show proceeded for nearly another 50 minutes without another mention of Libya. A full seven days later -- 168 hours to be precise -- Gregory made good on his belated pledge, raising Benghazi with Obama operative David Plouffe just over ten minutes into the November 4 Meet the Press , but only after trying to discredit administration critics: “A lot of misinformation about this and... continue reading
Former Newsweek Washington Bureau Chief and Assistant Managing Editor Evan Thomas saw an upside if Mitt Romney does manage to win the presidency, but Democrats continue to hold the Senate. On Inside Washington , Thomas avowed “that would allow Romney to tell the crazies in his own party ‘I have to make a deal with the Democrats.’ It would free him a little bit from the Tea Party.” In other words, he’d be able to agree to a tax hike. From Inside Washington , as aired Friday night on Washington, DC’s PBS station after it is produced by the ABC... continue reading
Chuck Lorre, executive producer of three sit-coms on CBS ( The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, Mike & Molly) , used the ends of two of his shows Thursday night to tease an online diatribe ridiculing Mitt Romney’s “magical underwear” as part of a series of questions mocking right of center policies, such as: “What does it say about us when we export democracy with Hellfire missiles, then restrict the right to vote here?” In his more vulgar language, he also asked: “What does it say about us when we completely forgot the colossal shit storm we... continue reading
